May 28, 2009
- The dates have been set for the 2009 National Conference on College Student Grief, 2009 Boot Camp 2 Beat Cancer, and 2009 AMF Banquet.
The 2009 National Conference on College Student Grief will be held August 14 in Raleigh, NC! The mission is to provide a national forum for student leaders, grieving college students, the college mental health community, college administrators and other interested parties to discuss current issues and future directions in college student grief support. It will take place during an energizing and inspiring weekend that includes educational seminars, networking opportunities, grief support workshops, and the Boot Camp 2 Beat Cancer! Online registration is available at http://2ndnationalconferenceoncollegestudentgrief.eventbrite.com/. If you are interested in learning more about the Conference, pleasego to the website or email conference@studentsofamf.org
The 2009 Boot Camp 2 Beat Cancer & Family Fun Walk will be August 15 at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, NC! The event is an exercise-based fundraiser open to people of all ages to 1) participate in a walk or work out, led by college and professional athletes, to raise awareness about the benefits of exercise and nutrition for cancer prevention; 2) raise money to fight cancer through cancer research at the Duke University Cancer Center; and 3) raise money to develop programs to support college students and their families that are coping with cancer through the National Students of AMF Support Network.
EVERYONE should attend of all ages! Bring friends and family to walk or workout! Come to walk around the track, cheer on participants, volunteer or participate in a “boot camp”-style fitness challenge. Also, we are always looking for volunteers to help out with this event. Please email laurenjbarry@gmail.com if you would like more information about the event or volunteering for the event.
The 2009 AMF Banquet will be held on August 16 at Vaughn Towers in Raleigh, NC! The Banquet is held annually to honor Anne Marie Fajgenbaum – whose life inspired the creation of “AMF” – and to celebrate the success of the National Students of AMF Support Network.
Proceeds from the event will go towards developing the current chapters of Students of AMF, creating new chapters, and offering new programming to college students coping with the illness or death of a loved one. This fundraiser provides all the funds for the annual budget for the organization. 100% of the time and energy of the Executive Team is devoted to programming and chapter development throughout the year thanks to the success and funds raised at this annual event.
