Mission and Programs

The mission of the National Students of AMF Support Network is to support all grieving college students, empower all college students to get involved in service, and to raise awareness about the needs of grieving college students. National Students of AMF accomplishes this mission by developing Campus Chapters, providing interactive e-support online, awarding scholarships, distributing research grants to enhance the field of adolescent bereavement studies, conducting conferences on college student bereavement, and holding fundraising events- including the annual Boot Camp to Beat Cancer.

Campus Chapters

Through a national marketing campaign, National Students of AMF seeks motivated students and faculty members to start Campus Chapters at their university. National Students of AMF continues to financially support the creation and sustenance of Campus Chapters.

Online Support Services

Using the latest information technology systems National Students of AMF's website will provide a place for grieving college students to interactively support one another. Additionally, students will be able to receive expert advice from mental health professionals through chat rooms and blogging.

Scholarships/ Grants Program

National Students of AMF, in partnership with other national organizations, will award research grants to mental health professionals who express an interest in, and show a passion for, research into college bereavement. These grants will encourage mental health professionals to research the unique issues of grieving college students, who have been largely neglected, and the best practices for supporting them.

National Students of AMF will award merit-based scholarships to college students who have lost a loved one. These students will share a dedication to serving others, leadership ability, a commitment to academics, and support for their peers. We are currently seeking a Scholarship Donor to have their name attached to this scholarship.

Pending large seed endowments, these programs will be fully implemented in the Spring of 2008.

Conferences

The inaugural National Conference on College Student Bereavement  will be held in Spring 2008 in Washington, DC to bring together student, faculty, and administrative leaders from around the country to engage in a discussion on the issues of grieving college students and what needs to be done to support these students. This conference will also bring together leaders from each Campus Chapter of Students of AMF to discuss their experiences and effective ways to sustain the group on their campus.

Fundraisers

The National AMF Weekend is held annually in August in Raleigh, NC and includes the Boot Camp to Beat Cancer and AMF Banquet. The 2006 AMF Weekend raised over $20,000 and the 2007 AMF Weekend raised over $40,000!

Hold your own fundraiser:

Hold your own Special Event to raise money for the National Students of AMF Support Network! Throughout the country, National AMF is fortunate to be supported by a variety of individuals and groups that hold their own fundraising events in their community. These events vary from single individuals who may host a run/walk/bike activity in a sporting event, to groups of volunteers conducting golf tournaments, fraternity/sorority parties, or holding cocktail/dinner events. Contact David@studentsofAMF.org if you are interested in holding a special fundraising event.
